Las Piñas College staff, instructors and students participated in the simultaneous city-wide clean up and tree planting project by the city government last April 25. The campaign is part of the worldwide earth day celebration. The day started early for ten Las Piñas College representatives who went to Zapote, Las Piñas at 5 am to participate in the the launching activity spearheaded by Honorable Congresswoman Cynthia Villar and former Mayor Imelda Aguilar. Meanwhile, back in LPC participants chose the areas around PIlar and Almanza. They started the morning clean up in and around the LPC campus, on MOD Avenue and Rose Avenue in Pilar Village, CRM Avenue, Hope St., and Hospital St. in BF Almanza, Las Pinas City.
After the clean up, the participants chose the spots, dug up the soil, and started the planting of 25 mahogany plants within and around the campus.
Rotaract and Interact members of LPC who also participated in the activities vowed to do more of this clean-up service for the benefit of the community. “Cleanliness must start within our selves, in our home and in the community to preserve the beauty of this planet” says Carla, RAC president.
LPC’s push to keep Las Piñas clean and green doesn’t end here. More projects are already in its planning stage. A motorcade is to be done in June to increase awareness among the citizens of Las Piñas. Seminars and lectures on proper waste management, environmental concerns etc. are also on the drawing board.
