Manny Pacquiao, one of the modern Filipino international icons like Billy Crawford, Jasmine Trias and David “Batista” Bautista, is the only person I know who can make traffic a myth and stop crimes for one day. Every time he fights, the atmosphere of the Philippines seems to change. But even with his achievements, many say that Pacman, the “People’s Champ”, is a devilish hex.
Some of you might have received a text message about the tragedies that occured thirteen days after Manny Pacquiao’s victories. These events have already happened three times including his last fight against Marco Antonio Barerra which was October 6, 2007. Now that Pacquiao’s next fight is nearing, people who are aware of these so called “coincidences” are more excited thirteen days after the fight rather than during the fight itself.
The first event happened thirteen days after Pacquiao’s victory against Eric Morales. The Wowowee stampede happened and 88 died while 337 were injured.
Next was thirteen days after his victory against Oscar Larios. Mayon Volcano erupted and so many died in Mudflow.
And lastly, thirteen days after his victory against Marco Antonio Barrera, 8 were confirmed dead in the glorieta2 explosion. Until now, the source of the explosion is still unknown.
These incidents may lack leads to Pacquiao but is able to trigger any reader’s curiosity. By just thinking about three coincidences and his name, Manny Pacquiao, you’ll then analyze that Manny Pacquiao also has thirteen letters. So some believe Pacquiao is a curse himself.
Some say he sold his soul to the devil, some say sacrifices are needed for his victories while some say its all twist of fate. I honestly smell something fishy too, but I was to choose whose side to go to on those three opinions, I shall say I’m going with the third one.
These occurrences may seem doubtful but we never have the right to judge nor to think something like that about someone who just has thirteen letters in his name. There are weirder occurrences in history that people hardly noticed so there’s no point in pointing our fingers to someone who was a thousand miles away while the events happened.
For now,I’m caught in between; I can’t force anyone to change opinions but I hope I can persuade others to stop ‘blamestorming’ people who are popular. Their actions just show their insecurities and their envy for these people.
Pacquiao is the modern Filipino hero. He gives pride to the Philippines so why should we reject someone with such heroism due to some incidents. Now that our modern hero is facing a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez, he definitely needs our prayers and support. After thirteen days, no matter what happens, he will still be the pride of the Philippine Nation.
